LIFI is expected to entering home use after 5 years
Recently, the Seventh China Cooperative Innovation Conference held in Chongqing, the director of the National Digital Switching System Engineering Technology Research Center Academician Wu Xing Jiang said, China is at the same starting line with the developed countries in the visible light communication research and practical applications, has been successful applied in on-demand TV, mine communication and other aspects, it is expected to take five years for home use.
LIFI (Light Fidelity) is wholly-called visible light wireless communication, that use of visible light to achieve wireless communications, which transmits information by high-speed signals emitted from LED, and this signal can’t be saw by the naked eye.
“Do not need to spend high cost to build communication base stations everywhere, just use the ubiquitous lamp resources, we only add a chip in LED bulb, than make it with functions of wireless router, communication base, WiFi access and GPS positioning.” The director of the National Digital Switching System Engineering Technology Research Center Academician Wu Xing Jiang said.
Wu Jiang Xing added that compared with traditional wireless networks, the visible light communication has advantages of faster, broader coverage, energy economy, green, healthy, reliable and so on.
“Visible light communications will be a strategic emerging industry with trillion production output.” China Industry-University Research Investment and Financing Union Executive president Hui Xiaobin said, the future of visible light communication can not only upgrade lighting and traditional communication industries, also will spawned a large number of new industries, especially on the navigation, secure communication and payment, intelligent traffic control and other promising applications.
